About the Author

Anthony J. Wheeler received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 1971. Dr. Wheeler is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California. He is currently Emeritus Professor of Engineering at San Francisco State University where he taught courses in Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, and lectures and laboratories in Experimental Methods. His development activities in laboratories in experimentation were the precursors to the present textbook.

 

Professor Ahmad R. Ganji received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1979. He is a professional engineer in the State of California. He has served as a faculty member at San Francisco State University since 1987, teaching courses in the areas of thermal-fluids, experimentation, and air pollution, and publishing over 40 works. Dr. Ganji has been the director of Industrial Assessment Center–a US DOE sponsored project since 1992. In this capacity he has managed hundreds of energy assessments of manufacturing facilities. As a consultant in energy efficiency projects, he has directed and managed numerous measurement and verification (M&V) projects that involve the formulation of detailed measurement protocols based on national and international standards.

About the Author
Shao Xiaocheng is a prominent Chinese embroidery artist who is the Director of the Beijing Shao Xiaocheng Embroidery Research Institute. She is a senior national fine art master of arts and crafts and a member of the Internationale Organisation Fur Volkskunst (IOV) of UNESCO. She has been conducting research into the history, reality, theories and practice of Chinese embroidery while engaged in art creation with great concentration in the past thirty years.

Shao Xiaocheng's research covers embroidery varieties on the verge of extinction and those that have become extinct since ancient times. Moreover, she has succeeded in practicing and summing up complicated techniques of repairing and duplicating those embroidered pieces as cultural relics in different styles. She took the lead in bringing the education of embroidery into institutions of higher learning, having actively promoted the inheritance, protection, appraisal and appreciation of embroidery as a Chinese national heritage. Her book Appreciation of Chinese Embroidery has been published and she also has written many papers on embroidery like Getting to Know Four Major Schools of Noted Embroidery before Collecting Embroidered Articles and Collection and Appraisal of Embroidery.

The book is designed for rough treatment. It is printed on durable paper, nicely glued, and has a hard laminated cover that resists spots and staining. It is published by the Course In Miracles Society (CIMS). It's beautiful black and pearl cover is reflective of a prophetic dream Helen Schucman had of what the healing manuscripts would look like. Not a review of today's perfume world--rather older versions. Delightful quiz on identifying your "perfume type"--however, I tended to like themes from many of them! Also recipes on making your own scented perfumes, scented paper, scented ink.

Nice introduction to home perfume making. For those of you complaining that this is not a natural perfume book, the book clearly says that it is not; however, the methods and formulas are the same. The suggestions are intriguing but I've found that the author's site and company are no longer around but there are others out there.

This book covers, in detail, many of the bases for creating scents of your own. It goes over the most common scent crafting basics, detailed descriptions of certain scents, gives recipes, and gives many other resources and commercial scent descriptions. All around a win, especially if you're just starting out or a hobbyist.

Good book but very basic

I enjoyed this book. It is a good beginner book

I'm a total newbie to playing in splashes, colognes, etc., and am finding this to be a very interesting and useful guide. I'm having quite a wonderful time trying the recipes and "how to's" in it.
