A must have for anyone who troubleshoots in a Windows-based environment on a daily basis. Couldn't ask for a better reference.

Context for this review:I'm not certain that I am the target audience for this book. I think it's more for programmers who require an intimate knowledge of the Windows OS for their work. I am not a programmer, but I do work in IT.So, maybe this is light reading if you already know the difference between a spinlock and pointer. I am no stranger to difficult technical reading (I have a BS, CCNP and MCSA), but this book was like the mental equivalent of hiking up a freaking mountain. Rugged.That said, I recommend it. I was frustrated because after years of working in IT and earning several Microsoft certifications, I still ran into whole sections of the OS that I'd never heard of before and had no idea what they did (What the hell is DCOM?).I'm not aware of any other books that go into this level of detail regarding the Windows OS. I'm glad I read it and I'm working my way through the second book now.

This book delivers as advertised. It is a deep dive into the Windows architecture and as advertised is targeted toward developers. I am not a developer but was looking for a book that might give me insight into the things I see as a computer technician. Much of what is in this book is beyond my understanding and need. However, there is enough that hits home that I'm glad that I purchased it.A main feature of the book is examples. The author does a very nice job of providing examples so you can see how the architecture blocks function and relate to each other. I have only read about 100 pages so far but am glad that I bought the book.

Great book.

As usual this is yet another phenomenal perspective of Windows Internals from Mark. The previous version covers much more detail. So you need to be sure Part 1 has the sections you need. I am eagerly waiting for the Part 2, which will cover memory management among other things. Based on what I have seen debugging, the previous version of Windows Internals (5th edition) is still valid on Win 8 and Win 7 for the most part for the missing sections.

Very good contents, most of needed topics covered. I can find answers in less than an hour. Especially useful for me when I do not use it constantly, but need to refresh memory time to time and find details of something.Digital edition has ugly pictures. That's not good that book is split into 2 parts EVEN FOR DIGITAL EDITION.

About the Author
Larry R. Dalton is the Founding Director of the National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center on Materials and Devices for Information Technology Research, Director of the DARPA MORPH program, and Director of two Department of Defense MURI Centers. He received the American Chemical Society Award in the Chemistry of Materials, and the IEEE/LEOS William Streifer Scientific Achievement Award. He is a Fellow of the American Chemical Society, the Materials Research Society, the Optical Society of America, the SPIE, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Peter Günter is Emeritus Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) and a member of the board of Rainbow Photonics Ltd in Zürich. His main research interests include electro-optics and integrated optics, nonlinear optics, ferroelectric and polar organic materials as well as THz photonics. He has written and edited ten books on photorefractive phenomena, laser-induced dynamic gratings and organic nonlinear optics, and is a fellow of the Optical Society of America.

Mojca Jazbinsek is a member of the ETH spin-out, Rainbow Photonics AG. At Rainbow Photonics she is currently working on applied research projects on organic nonlinear optical materials for high-speed electro-optics and THz-wave generation. Her research interests include novel organic electro-optically active materials with enhanced stability and their integration into photonic circuits, and novel infrared photosensitive materials for light processing, phase conjugation, spatial and spectral beam manipulation.

O-Pil Kwon is associate professor at the Department of Molecular Science and Technology and the Department of Applied Chemistry and Biological Engineering at the Ajou University in South Korea. His research interests include organic functional materials and supramolecular ordered materials for electro-optic, terahertz wave and electronic applications.

Philip A. Sullivan is Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Montana State University. He currently pursues research toward the development of novel organic photonic materials for biophotonics applications, nonlinear optical metamaterials and structured optical nanomaterials. This book explores how views of Hungarian origins reached the state of ignorance that it is today and then examines where the available evidence puts the Magyars origins. For the first time ever evidence is provided that combines the prevailing theories of the west and the east. Hungarian is shown to be an Uralic language as linguists have stated for 150 years and at the same time the Hungarian legends that say Hungarians originated near Persia are also proven to be correct.

DNA evidence is examined to determine the physical origins of the Hungarian people as farmers in the Hindu Kush region. The myths that have evolved regarding Hungarian origins are traced back to their origins. Hungarian pre-Christian religious practices are also examined.

Finally, not just Hungarian but all Uralic languages are shown to be a form of spoken Sanskrit "slang", based not on word inheritance but on the observational qualities of the object. For example, the Hungarian word for shovel, ‘kanál’, is derived from the Sanskrit word meaning to dig, ‘khana,’ and the Hungarian word for hoe, ‘kapa’, is from the Sanskrit word for a cavity or hole, ‘kupa’. A language law is presented that governs how Sanskrit words were adopted into Hungarian. Even the origins of the word ‘Magyar’ itself are presented.

About the Author
Frank Sandor is the youngest of four children born in Canada to Hungarian immigrants. His parents fled Hungary during the 1956 uprising after his father escaped from a Russian POW camp. Frank now lives in Maple Ridge with his wife and son. Frank has always been interested in anthropology, spending many summers in Utah studying its numerous archaeological remains. In his forties Frank combined his love of anthropology with the investigative skills he developed as a peace officer and the analytical skills developed from years of analyzing computer systems, and turned his attention towards the question of Hungarian origins.

Frank Sandor has an Associate Degree in Criminology from Douglas College, as well as having attended both the British Columbia Institute of Technology and Simon Fraser University. Frank is a professional member of the American Anthropological Association as well as a member of the Society for the Anthropology of Europe. Frank's hobbies include traditional archery and he is a member of his local archery club.
