This book is in a class by itself. Herb Wang writes on the topic of poroelasticity and makes the concept both easy to understand and relevant. A must have for anyone working in a field where both fluid mechanics and geomechanics interact.

I really like this book. It's a great reference. It gives great explanations and makes a very complicated topic easier to understand.

This book is one of the most useful I have come across in recent years. Poroelasticity is a challenging field, but rewarding to those who make the effort to study it. Wang does an excellent job, leading the reader from basic principles to a detailed understanding-with this book you can leapfrog dozens of more arcane works and get to grips with real problems. Yet, if you need the detail, a wide range of previous works are referenced, and put into historical perspective: a true work of synthesis. I hope this book will stimulate more Earth Scientists and Engineers to follow Wang's lead. Figures are as admirably clear as the writing. Only spoiled by the drab cover! This book covers quasi-static poroelasticity theory-consolidation and so on.Now all we need is for someone brave to do the same job on dynamic poroelasticity!

This is a wonderful book, with a wealth of information, and very clearly written. I regret having overlooked it for several years. It also contains many worked examples, from a large variety of references.

This book, written by a member of the didactic Biot Club, goes far beyond where Biot ever though anyone would take his linear approximations. The information and approach is dated, and has no application, although the math is fun. As someone who is in the know has stipulated, "This book does not pass the smell test." A better approach is one that addresses real micromechanical processes, and actual phenomenological behavior of natural porous substances, made in a certified lab.

Another garbage college textbook. The text is dry and it is written as if the authors were paid by page. Often the book would present an illustration or a diagram and then spend an entire page just describing only part of that said illustration and diagram. If you don't need this book for a class then its better to not buy it. Absolute convoluted mess. I'm just glad I was able to rent this rather than the rip off price.

The paperback version is a LOT less expensive than the hard cover version. I bought this book for a graduate course, and I have learned so much. The material is understandable. Make sure you read all the blue and yellow sections! The review questions at the end of each chapter are very helpful as well.

I purchased this book for an AIS course. It is an okay book - there is a LOT of vocabulary, and can sometimes feel like information overload. Also, the graphics might be helpful for visual learners, but I wish it broke them down a bit better for verbal learners. I think this may just be the nature of the subject.

For a book on Information Systems, I would have expected the examples on accounting functions to be more up-to-date with current business practices rather than the archaic processes that were included.Unfortunately, my instructor taught "by the book" and I was forced to relearn all the old ways of doing things such as forgoing using a lockbox for receiving cash and having two people in the mail room open the checks and manually write a deposit slip. Who has time for that?Have the authors of this book not heard of process improvement, automation, Six Sigma? Trust me, the companies out there certainly have and that's what employees' success is judged against.Teaching college students who have never worked in an Accounting Dept a process that hasn't been used in years is doing them a disservice. The Universities should expect current version textbooks to actually be updated with current business practices and then teach current business practices. Challenge themselves to actually produce graduates who won't feel behind the curve when they're out looking for a job up against those who have work experience. Put them ahead of the curve by teaching them Best Practice for their field. What a concept. It starts with truly up-to-date textbooks.

I would not have purchased this book if it wasn't for a class that I am taking. It is written so a student is able to understand it and it has great examples.

Some people complain the death of the cookie man is horrible. If a child doesn't understand this is only make believe and not true, he/she needs some real world experiences. Christ sake, this is a talking and walking cookie man. He gets eaten up at the end with no drama in the story line to infer a bloody or crumbly demise and no extra artwork to show a dead orcrumbly cookie. Get over it already. It's a really cute story about teasing too much. With a end result of a mean gingerbread man that is no more. Oops, maybe lots of teasing is no good. Maybe he's right.

This delightful tale is still as engaging for children today as it was decades ago. Repetition and memory are part of this story. The refrain of, "You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man," has the child repeating it right along with you as you read it aloud. And children like recalling the characters from whom the gingerbread man is running: the little boy, the old man and woman, the farmers, etc. The pictures are large and colorful, too.I presented this along with a gingerbread man cookie cutter to a 4 1/2 year-old and her mommy. When I saw how much the little girl liked decorating my own cookies, I realized what a wonderful gift this could be, as it was not only a project for the two of them to enjoy, but the child loved the book and would have fond memories for years to come, each time she read it.

This is the exact book that my children enjoyed years ago. I am now reading it to my grandchildren. It is simply written, yet illustrated so that the pictures tell the story. Toddlers can easily understand this version. And then, of course, cookies are made, decorated and then eaten!

I have 4 different versions of the gingerbread man. I purchased this one because it was required by my children's pre-school. It's my second favorite now because there's a little boy in the book that my little boys can relate to.My favorite is illustrated by Gail Yerrill and retold by Louise Martin. I love the vibrant colors and I really like the excitement of the fox crossing the river with the gingerbread man on his back. My boys always have to start it off by counting the gingerbread men on the inside covers.

I read this book to my children when they were young and I was delighted to find it still in print with the same graphics. I include this with every baby gift.

Cute and colorful.... Read this to my second graders at Christmas party as they put together the foam Legend of the Gingerbread Man ornaments... I loved both!
