From beginner to intermediate to advanced. Vince does a great job of getting you to the "aha" moment by taking you, bite by bite, through the content where you can index and parse out your own ideas about what questions you'd like to ask your own data. And that's what it comes down to, right? Opening your mind? This book will help you understand the platform, understand the potential, and then sets you free, liberating you from the confines of your previous database based tool, or endless grepping projects. Aka pain & suffering. If you want a very straight forward read, something to get you to your own aha moment, start here. you'll be Splunking before you know it.

That said, most new users of Splunk will never need to use Advanced XML. The Splunk administration interface has been significantly updated and simplified in the last two years.Original review:As a Splunk employee, I consider myself pretty knowledgable, especially about the search language. Stephen P. Robbins received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. His books have sold more than 7 million copies and have been translated into 20 languages. His books are currently used at more than 1,500 U.S. colleges and universities, as well as hundreds of schools throughout Canada, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and Europe. Rather than depicting native devotions solely from the viewpoint of their colonial codifiers, this book rescues indigenous perspectives on their own beliefs. This is achieved by an analysis of previously unknown or rare ritual texts that circulated in secrecy in Nahua and Zapotec communities through an astute appropriation of European literacy. Tavárez contends that native responses gave rise to a colonial archipelago of faith in which local cosmologies merged insights from Mesoamerican and European beliefs. In the end, idolatry eradication inspired distinct reactions: while Nahua responses focused on epistemological dissent against Christianity, Zapotec strategies privileged confrontations in defense of native cosmologies.

About the Author
Brian Katz is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. He received his BA from Williams College in 2003 with majors in mathematics, music and chemistry, and his PhD from the University of Texas, Austin in 2011, concentrating on algebraic geometry. While at the University of Texas, Austin, Brian received the Frank Gerth III Graduate Excellence Award and the Frank Gerth III Graduate Teaching Excellence Award from the Department of Mathematics. Brian is a Project NExT Fellow, supported by Harry Lucas, Jr and the Educational Advancement Foundation. Michael Starbird is Professor of Mathematics and a University Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas, Austin. He received his BA degree from Ponoma College and his PhD in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has held visiting positions at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, and at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. He served as Associate Dean in the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas from 1989 to 1997. Starbird's mathematical research is in the field of topology. He has served as a member-at-large of the Council of the American Mathematical Society and on the national education committees of both the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America.
